UT Dallas became a Texas STEM (T-STEM) Center in 2010. Originally named The Center for STEM Education and Research, the name was changed to the Institute for Instructional Excellence (IIE) in 2013 to align with its focus on improving inquiry-based learning experiences for students.
In addition to its continued work in STEM, the IIE is also involved in supporting the design and implementation of innovative programming including STEAM, Computer Science, and the Humanities.
Dr. Joe Ferrara, Director of UTD-IIE, serves as the current Texas STEM Coalition President, and 2017 Texas STEM Conference Chair.
