The University of Texas at Dallas Institute for Instructional Excellence (UTD-IIE) is part of the Department of Science and Mathematics Education housed within the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.  Our focus is to assist campuses and districts in building teacher capacity to design, implement, and assess inquiry-based learning environments across all grade levels and content areas.

Whether you are new to teaching computer science (CS) or have experience teaching other CS courses, the program is designed to promote growth by providing space for you to become comfortable with curricular materials, CS content, and pedagogy. Our curriculum provides a complete set of lesson plans that include inquiry-based activities, videos, assessment support, and educational tools.

Our strength is instruction!  Through a unique inquiry-based learning model and strong partnerships, UTD-IIE focuses on building capacity of school systems to implement and
​support inquiry-based learning including
Problem and Project-Based Learning.

Texas STEM Coalition

The Institute for Instructional Excellence serves on the Board of the Texas STEM Coalition.  The Coalition is a STEM Education focused 501c3 non-profit professional organization created to address the challenges of tomorrow’s technology-driven economy by researching, developing, and supporting best practices in STEM education for K-12 schools.
